Take notes from speakers

Hi there!

Knowing what to note down can be difficult for anyone because you are mentally sorting out materials that interest you. You have a specific purpose to find relevant and irrelevant information.

I plan to write more in the future regarding taking notes but today, I’d like to focus on taking notes from speakers.

Before I give out the fascinating tip, I’d like to acknowledge that this discovery was from the book, Writer’s Manual by Martin Manser & Stephen Curtis. In short, this book is phenomenal.

A good speaker always makes it easy for the audience to take notes. Try to jot down the structural outline first. Speakers and lecturers rely on a sense of contact with the audience so that the material is clear.

Listen out for the signals, and use them.

Divide your attention between the speaker and your notes. Don’t do them simultaneously.

That’s all,

💎 Gems Of The Week

  1. Podcast Guy Raz ON: Safely Quitting Your Job & Building the Business of Your Dreams. Hosted by Jay Shetty On Purpose. This episode introduced me to a new podcast which was hosted by Guy Raz, who interviews successful entrepreneurs of the world. In the episode, I learned about the motivations behind entrepreneurial work. And what differentiates successful ones from the rest. What I learned: Find solutions to problems that you face instead of thinking about the problems of the globe. I.e: If you find that standing in a line is boring, find a solution for it.
  2. Podcast — [Is the Future of Farming in the Ocean?](https://freakonomics.com/podcast/frbc-bren-smith/#:~:text=(Ep. 467),-June 23%2C 2021&text=Bren Smith%2C who grew up,%3B his secret ingredient%3A kelp.) Bren Smith, who grew up fishing and farming, is on a movement that seeks to feed the planet without putting environmental stress on it. Bren has an interesting point of view on providing food to everyone by depending on kelp. He argues that this ingredient is the secret.
  3. Podcast McBride Sister’s Wine hosted by Guy Raz. After discovering this episode from the On Purpose podcast, I couldn’t wait. The story of the McBride sister’s wine company is riveting. Robin and Andrea are half-sisters who didn’t know about each other’s existence until they are young women. After forming an interesting bond, they chose to build an empowering business in the wine industry. The reason was that wine, at the time, was sold towards the rich white men. A must listen.
  4. Podcast Shut your mouth! Nose breathing improves all your body systems. It’s been over two years, ever since I’ve read the Super Human by Dave Asprey. My first biohacking book. It was a treasure chest filled with applicable actions to live functionally. This episode isn’t any different. Dave interviews Patrick, who is a breathing expert, and introduces the magical bullet, breathing. I’d recommend listening to it. But if there is one snippet from the episode, it is that we should try to breathe from our nose as much as possible. Stop using your mouth to inhale oxygen, it’s not its purpose.
  5. Book The Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson. This is a brutally honest book in the genre of self-help. It’s definitely not for everyone. If you hold a query theory then this book is useful. So far, I am enjoying this book on my kindle and I plan to read it again in the future. Because it’s that good.

🖊 Quote Of The Week

Read With Me | The Almanack of Naval Ravikant (Final) Ep 3

The Almanack of Naval Ravikant by Eric Jorgensen

This book is by far my favorite book that I’ve ever read. I first heard of Naval from the Jo Rogan experience podcast and initially, I thought of Naval as “one of those Indian Silicon Valley technocrats who doesn’t know what he is talking about.” Now, I am admitting that I was totally wrong.
